Squaremeal Review of Berber & Q ?

Squaremeal London Hot 100 2016 Barbecue gets the North African treatment at this first venture from Josh Katz (ex Galvin Bistrot de Luxe and Ottolenghi). Set in a Haggerston railway arch, it’s a mash-up of Berlin nightclub and Moroccan-tinged Hoxton hangout with open kitchen. Prepare to share – two long tables dominate the room and meats from the charcoal-fired mangal are served on mess trays in the middle. Beer is available in growlers (half-gallon bottles) and wine in magnums, as well as the usual formats. The menu features bar snacks, meats and vegetable-based mezze and the harissa hot wings come plump and juicy, but aren’t particularly spicy. The smoked short-rib in a date syrup glaze arrives black, glistening and falling off the bone, with a delicious molasses sweetness. Stand-out vegetable mezze includes cauliflower shawarma, grill-blackened and topped with tahini, pine nuts and a dusting of rose petals. Fun and funky, Berber & Q is the perfect venue for smoking hot good times with friends.

The Picky Glutton :: Berber and Q review | Middle Eastern barbecue in Haggerston | The Picky Glutton

The incredibly satisfying BBQ you never knew you needed

If you’re a superficial knee-jerk reactionary, then you’ll hate Berber and Q before you even step through the front door. It’s located in Haggerston, near the epicentre of horn-rimmed plaid-shirtedness that is Shoreditch. Heck, its next door neighbour is a board games cafe. Everything is ‘reclaimed’ from the premises, a converted railway arch, to many of the fittings and fixtures inside such as the uneven tiles lining the bar. The food combines two of London’s most ‘fashionable’ food ‘trends’ – barbecue and Middle Eastern food. Although plenty of plates...

Samphire and Salsify | just another food blog :: Samphire and Salsify: Berber & Q, Haggerston

It’s not the sort of place I frequent often is Haggerston, but it’s starting to become a lot more enticing with the addition of Tonkotsu East and now this, Berber & Q. It’s housed in a railway arch, naturally, and it’s ethos is neatly summed up on the website “mezze from the east, music from the west”.

Sharking for Chips and Drinks :: Brunch at Berber amp Q Haggerston London

You’ve probably had it up to your eyeballs with how much we keep banging on about how Berber & Q can do no wrong. Our latest review on their Shukshuk Bar partnering up with Crate Brewery in Hackney Wick being the latest instalment (read our review). Well we had heard that they had started doing brunch at their original railway arch in Haggerston – and with it gave us a chance to introduce a newbie to the cuisine as well.
It’s an eerie calm walking into Berber & Q on a Sunday morning without the throning masses jammed into tables and around the bar with the sound system pumping and the bar staff pumping...
