In the heart of the city, Jars Meze brings an (extremely tasty) slice of Greece to Bath. Family-run and taking its cues from tradition, it’s a restaurant built on classic Greek hospitality. And, if you've ever been to any of Greece's beautiful islands, you'll know that this means food, food and more food, served with warmth, generosity with the feeling that you're already part of the gang.
The team behind Jars Meze say they created the restaurant to share the flavours and rituals of Greek dining with a wider community. Recipes passed down through generations form the backbone of the menu, each dish prepared with the same care you’d expect in a Greek family home. The philosophy is simple: meze-style dining that encourages sharing, conversation and connection.
The aesthetic mirrors that no-fuss charm. White walls and wooden floors keep the space light and relaxed, while coral-hued faux flowers add a cheerful, Mamma Mia-inspired touch. It feels like a local gem with simple decor that keeps you focused on the fantastic food. The menu begins, as it should, with meze. Kalamarkia tiganita, fried squid coated in corn flour, is served with taramosalata for dipping. Kolokithopitakia bring courgette and feta together in crisp croquettes, while tirenies piperies offer red sweet peppers stuffed with Greek cheese and herbs. Classic fried halloumi arrives golden with a warm, soft centre - always a favourite!
Mains celebrate comforting Greek classics. Moussaka layers potatoes, aubergine and minced pork in tomato sauce beneath a generous topping of béchamel and cheese. Pork gyros comes wrapped in pita with chips, salad and tzatziki, while chicken giouvetsi pairs tender thigh with halloumi, spinach, tomato sauce and orzo. For larger tables, sharing platters including a meat feast of gyros mezze, tigania, rolo gourounaki and kokkinisto moscharaki, arrive with salad, tzatziki and pita. And, for dessert? How about baklava in crisp filo with crushed nuts and honey syrup, while orange cake offers semolina sponge soaked in citrus syrup. Yum.
