In a historic waterside setting on Weymouth Harbour, Catch at The Old Fish Market promises diners an upmarket but authentic seafood dining experience. The team uses fantastic skills to prepare ingredient-led dishes with a focus on fresh, sustainable seafood and locally sourced, seasonal produce. The menus always change with the seasons, and can even change day to day, depending on what the day boats bring in. Set directly on the waterfront, directly on top of a traditional fishmonger, there’s no better place for it.
It's a tasting menu only, with a lighter option for lunch on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Chef patron Ben Champkin has been shaped by a storied experience across the UK and California, focusing on what's local and in season. Catch is particularly keen on strengthening their approach to sustainability, largely by sourcing its seafood from the Weymouth area. It’s so local in fact, that the team will typically know the name of the day boat and fisherman who caught it.
For dinner, the Catch at The Old Fish Market menu starts off with braised squid croquettes with pork fat, followed by zesty citrus cured monkfish tail in yoghurt. Dark wholemeal sourdough is served to the table, before potted crab with hollandaise and broth, the Bay prawns with celeriac and whey. The next course is a glazed jowl with smoked potato, and a course simply named 'the catch' comes next. Cleanse your palette before dessert with golden beetroot sorbet and orange sherbert, and then tuck into baked dark chocolate with sourdough ice cream. The lunch menu includes a selection of the same dishes, just as a lower price point – so you can still get a taste of Catch. The team is delighted to be able to offer both vegetarian and vegan tasting menus as long as you give them a bit of notice to make arrangements.
