SquareMeal Review of
Beer + Burger
Sister to the Willesden Green original, this no-frills converted lock-up does what it says on the tin. The beer wall offers 20 thirst-quenchers on daily rotation, perhaps including local crafties Neck Oil IPA and Yuzilla Phantom (a lemony, salty, herbal German-style ‘Gose’ beer), both by Beavertown. Designated drivers should sample Something About Nothing (just 0.4% abv), while cider fans might try Lily the Pink from Herefordshire. Chill cabinets hold upwards of 300 bottles and cans, also available to take away. The joint’s other raison d’être, burgers, are big, butch, meaty, inexpensive and basic (just bacon, double cheese, chicken or, this being E8, vegan). Nevertheless, extras such as cheese and gravy fries, coleslaw, pickles or mac 'n' cheese balls can bump up the bill. Finish with Oreo cheesecake or chocolate Rolos: you’ll need them after the venue’s monthly 10km fun run with its promise of a free beer for all completing the course.
