SquareMeal Review of
Aston Bar and Restaurant at Radisson Blu Edwardian Grafton Hotel (afternoon tea)
The glamorous home of the Aston Martin club during the 1930s, the Aston Bar at London’s Radisson Grafton Hotel now seems to have the Top Gear generation in its sights – if the ‘gentlemen’s’
afternoon tea (£15) is anything to go by. This hearty repast would have pinkie-lifting aristos shuddering into their Earl Grey. Scones with preserves and cream are its only concession to tradition;
as for the rest, the bloomer sandwiches are defiantly ‘crust on’ and there’s no room for cakes. Instead, three-tiered stands are loaded with mini fish and chips with mushy peas, mini lamb kebabs
and tiny Yorkshire puddings with slices of rare roast beef. And you can supplement your cuppa with a pint of lager or an Aston martini, making this flamboyant contemporary bar a highly original
choice for an afternoon meeting with like-minded colleagues or clients.
