There’s something special about a much-loved, local gem - but, it’s not something you often find in the middle of Soho. Well, welcome to Mele e Pere; this Northern Italian trattoria has all the hallmarks of a family-run eatery, serving up homemade dishes with love and top-quality ingredients, offering personalised service that keeps regulars coming back for more.
Run by three brothers and their close friend, it’s perfect for your next party or gathering. The restaurant is split over two floors with the downstairs basement creating a cosy vibe with low ceilings and ruby-hued walls, as well as an atmospheric little cocktail bar. Here, there’s space for up to 40 people but the team say they’ll happily cater for more - simply fill out the online form with plenty of notice and they’ll work around you.
What makes Mele e Pere a great choice is that it’s not trying to be anything - it’s just authentic, great food. Which, we think, makes it all the cooler. The team have made feeding your guests easy by developing a group dining menu which you can check out beforehand and caters to vegans, vegetarians and can be gluten free if required; just have a chat to the team about any worries or preferences you might have and they’ll help you out.
While menus may change with the seasons, you can expect the three courses to kick off with some antipasti which might look like pork and fennel polpettine with San Marzano tomato sauce and Pecorino cheese, alongside burrata Pugliese, roasted tomatoes, olives and garlic crostini. For mains, we like the sound of chicken breast with roast potatoes, sautéed spinach and sun-dried tomatoes, as well as tagliatelle alla bolognese with slow cooked beef ragu, and mafaldine with San Marzano tomatoes, burrata and basil. For dessert, who could resist Nonna Mantovani’s tiramisu? But, if you fancy something a little bit ‘out there’ the roast pineapple with lemon balm sorbet sounds gorgeous, too.
