Exhibition venues are something that London does very well. It has become a hub for international expos of all varieties, particularly since the The London 2012 Olympics. Whether you're planning on holding an annual exhibition in West London (Earl's Court is a good place to start), in the City or out in The Docklands, there's an exhibition space available for you.

Exhibition venues is something that London does very well. It has become a hub for international expos of all varieties. The London 2012 Olympics, of course, has raised London events profile even further. Whether you're planning on holding an annual exhibition in West London (Earl's Court is a good place to start), in the City or out in The Docklands, there's an exhibition space available for hire.

Some of trade fair ready venues we've compiled in this selection on squaremeal.co.uk are in buildings you may not necessarily think of first. Race courses – one of a variety of different sports venues – for example, with their abundance of space – some have space for over 1,000 seated theatre-style – for display stands are a good bet. In the list there are large-scale music venues, which add character and a little theatre to your event.

With the advent of the Olympics, there has also been a few new venues for exhibitors to pitch up in. If you're keen to book a venue in a slightly more historical setting check out the listed building offering their space for exhibitions.

Home to the British Academy, this charming St James’s property offers a range of rather grand event spaces. Period features contrast with abstract art and up-to-date tech, providing rooms ready for modern business needs. The venue has just completed the refurbishment of its Lecture Room and Wolfson Room. Both have benefitted from an updated colour scheme, while the former has a new stage, making it the best spot for important presentations.

The Prince Consort Rooms is the modern facet to the Honourable Artillery Company’s venue collection, which also includes the Armoury House. Built in the shell of the venue’s original Victorian drill hall, the space comprises two areas, the East and West Albert Rooms – which can be used separately or in combination. Both have top-drawer AV facilities, and are equally suited to conferences, dinners and small-scale exhibitions.

This arched glass atrium in Canary Wharf soars above 682sq m of marble floor with vast windows looking out towards the waterfront. As well as hosting parties, the venue is suited to exhibitions, product launches and automotive showcases. The 4m x 3m LED screen and sound-absorbing acoustics will please conference bookers. The Gallery suspended above the main floor can be hired on its own, and the multimedia Promenade Room will suit smaller groups.

Europe’s largest arts and conference venue boasts world-class facilities. The tiered Barbican Hall and Barbican Theatre have good sight lines, fine acoustics and adjoining foyers. Three auditoria are also on offer, with adjacent conference suites. Elsewhere, a trio of banqueting rooms can be used together – a popular combination being the Conservatory and Garden Room (a plant-filled oasis). The Exhibition Hall has a versatile 1,800sq m of space.

This purpose-built Westminster venue is no stranger to high-profile clients. Its 32 event spaces hold up to 2,500 delegates, and conferences and exhibitions work well here. A major refurb, including a renovated façade, new breakout spaces and improved lighting, was recently completed. We’re big fans of the Churchill, whose slightly raked seating means everyone gets a good view. The larger rooms work well for banquets and drinks receptions.

This is the second of the group’s sites to pop up close to Liverpool Street station. It’s a big space: there’s around 1,900sq m to play with, giving the venue an airy layout that suits product launches, exhibitions and conferences. Its headline Broadgate Suite is a state-of-the-art room, with the latest IT systems, while the Galleria can house more than 35 exhibition stands. There are rooms for smaller meetings and AV kit is in place throughout, along with super-fast wi-fi.

The Covent Garden home of English freemasonry is a rousing venue for dry-hire events including conferences, awards ceremonies and gala dinners. Licensed to serve drinks and play music until 2am, its biggest event spaces are the first-floor Grand Temple and the Vestibules. Both come with fine art-deco stylings and are accessed via the private Tower Entrance. On the ground floor, the Old Boardroom can be a useful breakout space, while the Ante Room suits drinks receptions.

Undoubtedly one of the most impressive of Etc Venues’ 15-strong portfolio, this riverside property occupies the County Hall building’s third and fourth floors. Hire options span flexible suites, exclusive-use wings and breakout spaces. We like the idea of hosting a conference in the sizeable County Suite before spilling out into the Thames Lounge for a drinks reception. This Royal Victoria Docks venue was built to showcase green technologies (it generates its own energy), but it’s also a state-of-the-art events venue. Beside the main Auditorium, a range of light and bright meeting rooms work well for events from workshops to product launches. For receptions, try the open-plan Street, and if you need more space, hire the interactive Exhibition with it. Tours can be built into event programmes.

This King’s Road venue’s illustrious past is apparent the moment you walk through its marbled foyer. The Main Hall is a classic late-Victorian design: its ornate arched ceiling and marble columns form a dramatic backdrop for drinks receptions and dinner dances. In a Grade II*-listed former town hall, Battersea Arts Centre stands tall as a south London cultural hub. Currently undergoing a refurb, its Grand Hall – originally a Victorian ballroom – is accepting hires from February 2019. In the meantime, there are 12 more rooms on site for meetings and networking. For social events, there’s the living room-style Waiting Room, or the light, airy Members’ Library, which has its own anteroom.

The Roehampton portfolio now includes Elm Grove, a new-build conference centre a short train ride from Waterloo. It joins 18th-century Grove House and Parkstead House, adding contemporary spaces and state-of-the-art facilities to the group offer. Founded in 1799 by eminent scientists, the Royal Institution is still dedicated to the diffusion of scientific knowledge. The former residence of prime minister William Gladstone is now home to the British Academy, which under its venue moniker, 10-11 Carlton House Terrace, offers 11 rather grand event spaces for hire. In 2016, the venue added the book-lined Lee Library to its lineup of spaces, which lends its regency character to evening dinners.

The Brewery

The Brewery

The Brewery is a collection of distinctive spaces that play host to anything from exhibitions and conferences to glitzy award ceremonies, Christmas parties and fashion shows. The standout space is the versatile Porter Tun, one of the largest unobstructed rooms in London.
