Handily placed by the waterside in Paddington’s trendy development, See Sushi has a clean, minimalist look with big plate-glass windows, a long counter, diner-style banquettes and bare wooden tables. The menu covers all Japanese bases from sushi and sashimi to hot appetisers (deep-fried soft-shell crab with wasabi sauce, chicken yakitori), donburi rice bowls, soup noodles, curries and teriyaki specialities – although the kitchen also adds a sprinkling of generic pan-Asian staples including sesame prawn toasts, satays, Singapore laksa and pad thai. Otherwise, good-value bento boxes are handy for a quick lunchtime fix. See’s drinks list is also well worth a look: check out the Chinese ‘Koshu’ wines from Château Lumière and the Soryu winery, as well as saké and potent Shui Jing Fang ‘baijiu’ (a vodka-like spirit).
