Clapham’s dining scene continues to flourish, and Tirak is the latest gem to join the fold. Brought to life by local hospitality duo Natalie and Matt, Thai restaurant Tirak slots seamlessly into the buzz of Clapham High Street, offering a warm, welcoming escape from the everyday.
The interiors are drenched in terracotta tones, with full-length windows flooding the space with natural light. Hessian drapes and eclectic lighting lend a touch of wanderlust, setting the scene for a menu that’s equally adventurous. Head Chef Marcus Kong leads the kitchen with flair, drawing on experience from revered Asian institutions like Nanyang Blossom and Khao Bird. He’s joined by menu consultant Daisy Beale, the creative force behind Magic Momo, whose Nepalese heritage and years cooking in Thailand bring depth and authenticity to the offering.
Tirak’s menu is a bold celebration of Asian flavours and techniques, with dishes designed to surprise and delight. Highlights include crispy deep-fried seabass with zingy nam jim jaew, Thai grilled beef Laab salad, and the indulgent Chicken Khao Soi – a rich coconut broth with silky noodles and crispy chicken. Beale’s signature momos make an appearance, alongside inventive plates like charred oyster mushroom Choila and a pistachio & Gulab Jamun cheesecake.
Currently open for dinner, with lunch and brunch soon to follow, Tirak is a place of discovery and conviviality. The atmosphere is relaxed yet lively, with a palpable sense of community and care. As Matt and Natalie put it, 'We’re thrilled to bring something new to Clapham – Tirak is a love letter to the flavours we adore and the people we’ve met along the way.'
