About

Barnard Castle is a traditional, cosy town and the Old Well Inn perfectly fits with the surrounding ambience. A 17th century building, the pub is also a bed and breakfast nestled within the castle walls. Seven spacious en-suite rooms provide a place to rest your head if you wish to extend your stay after a delicious evening meal in the restaurant.

Both child-friendly and dog-friendly, the team at the Old Well Inn ensure that everyone feels welcome at all occasions. Outside, you'll find a well-kept beer garden with gorgeous views enclosed in the castle walls; while inside, elegantly-presented tables and the bright conservatory will occupy the adults while a children's play area will keep young diners entertained.

At the bar you'll find a fully-licenced offering of local, hand-pulled real ales that are brewed in Barnard Castle as well as all your usual drinks and nibbles.

In the restaurant, the lunch menu has a great selection of sandwiches to satisfy hungry midday guests. Choose from tomato and cheese, crispy chicken, or sausage, amongst many others, as well as your choice of thick cut white or brown bread.

At dinner, guests might start off with a hearty soup of the day with a fresh bread roll for dipping, before following with any of the home, comfort-food mains. Battered fish, scampi, crispy chicken and burgers joins pies, vegetarian options and an impressive seafood platter.

As well as the main menu, the team also offer blackboard specials as well as a selection of Indian dishes. Starters like onion bhajis and masala chips may be followed by an Indian curry or snack platter. On Thursday nights, the pub offers a special biryani night where chicken or lamb options are served with potato, egg and yoghurt. The pub also offers a special menu on a Sunday when a traditional roast of chicken, beef or vegan main is served with a Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, mash, seasonal vegetables and lashings of gravy.
