About

The Bridge Tavern is a historic brewpub and restaurant in the heart of Newcastle. You’ll find it sitting right between the stanchions of Newcastle’s most iconic landmark - The Tyne Bridge. This site has been a pub of one sort or another for over two centuries - the original pub was demolished in 1925 to make way for the construction of The Tyne Bridge, but it has since been restored to its former glory.

Thankfully the Bridge Tavern has also seen something of a refurbishment since 1925 as well - the interiors are tidy, but with industrial details that hint at the tavern’s history. The walls are exposed brick, but painted murals help to bring a bit of colour and life to the main pub area. Further into the pub you’ll find large, plush leather sofas, tables and towering sage bookcases filled with old books. There’s also a rooftop terrace that makes a lovely suntrap in the summer months.

The menu is classic gastropub fare, with a focus on sharing platters - these sharing planks are loaded with meat, fish, or plant-based snacks - think scotch eggs, tempura prawns, olives, sausage rolls and the like - perfect for snacking on whilst you enjoy a pint or two with friends. Alternatively, get stuck into a proper plate of pub grub - the menu features all sorts of dishes, from burgers, fish and chips, to sausage and mash or a game pie. Desserts are similarly comforting, including the likes of chocolate brownie, apple and blackberry crumble and sticky toffee pudding.

Sundays are also popular at The Bridge Tavern and the pub lays on a range of Sunday roasts with all the trimmings. Everything is sourced locally whenever possible and the kitchen team keeps the menu moving through the seasons, so you’re always guaranteed to be eating proper, seasonal ingredients.

The Bridge Tavern serves a selection of bespoke cask and keg beers, as well as a range of internationally recognised wines and spirits. It also houses a microbrewery on the ground floor, where the tavern brews in association with Newcastle brewers Wylam Brewery - the region's leading craft brewer.
