Copenhagen-based chain Sticks’n’Sushi has spread its wings to occupy choice locations across London. Distinctive Scandi design is a hallmark of each branch; here, natural wood and low lights create a sophisticated street-side dining room, while the lighter back space is tiled, with a bright open kitchen where chefs prepare yakitori (grilled skewers or ‘sticks’) and super-fresh sushi. Yakitori such as fiery beef with crunchy chilli and garlic or rich panko-breaded duck offer plenty for meat-eaters to get their teeth into, though the beautifully presented platters of sashimi, nigiri and rolls will delight sushi fans. Our favourite on a recent visit was the “formidable” avocado and cucumber roll topped with salmon tartare and trout roe. Enthusiastic staff will happily recommend dishes from the extensive menu if the mouthwatering pictures offer too much choice. Soups and salads, a thoughtfully selected drinks list and unusual puds such as black sesame ice cream complete the pleasurable package. In a hurry? Plump for the takeaway option.
