Located on Little Clarendon Street in the heart of Oxford, Pierre Victoire is regarded as one of Oxford's best loved and busiest French restaurants. The Pierre Victoire name has become somewhat synonymous with fantastic French food, excellent wines (many of which are sourced by SH Jones of Banbury Wines), and a wonderful casual atmosphere, all available at affordable prices.
Open for lunch and dinner, Pierre Victoire Oxford offers a selection of prix fixe menus. If you visit for dinner, you can expect a selection of superb entrees, such as French onion with comte croutons, moules marinieres a la creme with St Austell Bay mussels, chicken liver and bacon pate with brioche, or deep-fried breaded camembert. There's also a classic salmon gravadlax with hand-picked crab meat and snails baked in a parsley, garlic and Pernod butter sauce.
Main dishes, or ‘plats principaux’ as they appear on the menu, include mushroom tartiflette with caramelised onions and a rocket salad, confit duck leg with pancetta and puy lentil ragout, and other French classics like moules-frites and cerf a la bourguignonne (a venison red wine casserole). But it’s the steak selection at Pierre Victoire that is often most popular, with cuts including flat iron steak, entrecote and fillet.
For dessert, you can expect more French classics. Tuck into the likes of creme brulee with a burnt sugar crust, black forest and vanilla cheesecake with a port and cranberry compote, and fondue au chocolat for two with fresh fruit and marshmallows – you can choose to lace yours with Cointreau, Amaretto or Baileys.
On a Sunday, Pierre Victoire offers a roast dinner menu, which begins with similar starters as the a la carte offering, followed by three choices of roast meat. There's roast beef with horseradish creme fraiche, chicken roasted on the bone with a tarragon jus, and roasted pork belly with a Calvados sauce.
