SquareMeal launches its first podcast to spotlight industry-leading chefs

Embracing our status as a market leader when it comes to a digital offering, we’re excited to announce the launch of our brand-new podcast, Restaurant Reservations. With a run of high-profile chefs explaining the trajectory of their career through the lens of the restaurants that have shaped their progress, our host Amelia Slaughter unveils interesting, often funny, and sometimes surprising food moments that have impacted our guests.

Earlier this year we moved away from a joint print and digital focus to solely embrace our hugely successful online offering. The podcast comes as part of our commitment to our continued growth in this sphere and will help to extend our brand reach outside of our existing model.

With a strong existing online following we want to harness our position as a trusted voice of the industry through multiple channels to market. It will now be possible for our one-million-strong monthly audience to access our expert-led insight in a fully portable format to compliment what we already do so well on-site and through social. The addition of a podcast to our output comes as a wider development project for our brand, with additional exciting launches lined-up for the rest of 2021 and into 2022.

Speaking about the launch of Restaurant Reservations, our Content Director, Caroline Hendry says, “we’re already seeing great listening figures from our inaugural episode, which confirms our suspicions that our audience have an insatiable appetite for storytelling with a focus on food. With a run of recognisable household names in our guest line-up for forthcoming episodes, we’re excited to see our new project grow over the coming weeks and months. Across the board I see SquareMeal’s role as an important one, to celebrate the incredible chefs we’re lucky enough to call our own here in the UK, and think the addition of a podcast bolsters our ability to champion our homegrown talent.”

The series launched with an interview between our host Amelia Slaughter and Michelin-starred chef Atul Kochhar. During their chat Atul speaks about his fascinating upbringing in East India, why he loves a certain well-known chicken restaurant, and what he thought of the London restaurant scene when he first moved to London.
