Apple TV+ has greenlit a new eight-episode documentary series, Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars, with world-renowned chef Gordon Ramsay at the helm as executive producer. Under the banner of Ramsay’s production company, Studio Ramsay Global, the series promises rare and ‘exclusive’ Michelin Guide access, and a behind-the-scenes look at elite chefs worldwide as they win, retain, reclaim or lose the most prestigious culinary prize: the Michelin star. As yet, the release date is unconfirmed, though it’s expected to air later this year.
Hosted by Jesse Burgess, co-founder and presenter of Topjaw, and filmed in cities including Los Angeles, Mexico City, London, and Copenhagen, Knife Edge will follow chefs as they navigate their own individual challenges. Shot over the year-long Michelin Guide season, the series is expected to reveal unprecedented details concerning the Michelin inspectors’ famously secretive process, which sees inspectors dine incognito, using false identities and phone numbers.
Known for cult-status TV shows like Hell’s Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares, Gordon Ramsay currently holds eight Michelin stars across five locations in the UK and France, including London’s three-star Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, and one-star restaurants 1890 by Gordon Ramsay and Petrus. His newest restaurant, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay High, opened next to Lucky Cat at 22 Bishopsgate just six days before the Michelin Guide 2025 awards were announced, and is thought by many to be a likely recipient of a star (or stars) next year.
‘As a chef, the pursuit of perfection is everything, and you cannot underestimate the unbelievable drive and ambition, the determination and sacrifice these chefs are going through day in and day out.’ Ramsay said in a statement.
Burgess echoed this sentiment, adding: ‘We are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the stories of some of the most exciting restaurants in the world - as they throw everything, including the kitchen sink, at their obsessive quest for the ultimate award.’ Burgess and fellow Topjaw co-founder Will Warr have built a strong following for their candid interviews with leading chefs and sharp, entertaining takes on the restaurant scene. That should translate into a series that can appeal to both food insiders and casual viewers alike.
