Aoife is a Junior Writer at SquareMeal, charged with supporting the content team across all channels, writing restaurant reviews, and producing feature articles.
Aoife’s Experience
Having served and managed in the restaurant business, Aoife brings to the table an insider’s appreciation of what it takes - from grill to till - to get it right.
Her interest in hospitality began with ad hoc waiting jobs as a student. After graduating from Durham University, Aoife returned to the industry. Within two years, she had progressed through the ranks of The Kudu Collective restaurant group, first as assistant manager of Kudu Grill, and later as general manager for the opening of Little Kudu.
During this time, Aoife was responsible for recruiting and training waiting staff while working closely with chefs, suppliers, PR professionals, and reviewers (including SquareMeal’s own Ellie Donnell). She then set about blending this know-how with another career interest that had been on the back burner.
Starting out as a freelance writer, Aoife drew on research, evaluation, and writing skills she’d honed for a degree in Ancient History. Early assignments ranged from covering technology trends, AI, recycling, and robotics to ghostwriting a blog on human resources, but composing content for SquareMeal was the most fulfilling.
Now on the staff as a Junior Writer, Aoife assists with everyday journalism and content maintenance tasks. Her responsibilities include researching and writing articles, composing restaurant reviews, and collaborating with the editorial team to produce quality, informative content that resonates with SquareMeal's discerning audience.
Outside work, Aoife enjoys climbing, drawing, cooking, and spending time with friends, many of whom, coincidentally, share her interests - professionally, as chefs, or simply getting together to prepare and enjoy good food. SquareMeal, meanwhile, is providing a varied diet of work and experience that will sustain Aoife through her career.
