Located on Academy Street in the centre of Inverness, Mangrove is a contemporary Indian restaurant offering a modern twist on traditional South Asian cuisine. Since opening in 2021, Mangrove has become a popular spot for Indian food in the city.
Mangrove’s interior is a tasteful blend of industrial chic and rustic charm, with exposed brick walls, copper piping, chandeliers and an abundance of greenery creating an inviting and relaxed dining atmosphere. It also operates a bring-your-own-bottle (BYOB) policy, with a modest £2.50 corkage fee, all of which is donated to environmental charities focused on mangrove reforestation.
The kitchen sources fresh, high-quality ingredients from trusted local suppliers, including Munro’s Butchers and Rizza’s Ice Cream. The menu at Mangrove is a celebration of Indian culinary traditions infused with creative, locally inspired touches. Diners can enjoy house specials such as desi mince and tatties, a bold fusion of spiced minced beef and potatoes inspired by Scottish comfort food, as well as vegetarian options like the indulgent tandoori makhanwala, a baked paneer cheese curry with a golden crust. There are also classic Indian dishes including rogan josh, dhansak and freshly grilled tandoori items, with most dishes customisable to suit different heat preferences. Sharing platters are also popular here including the Mangrove mixed platter, which has chicken tikka, vegetable pakora, chicken tikka masala, vegetable bhaji, chicken dansak, lamb samosa, basmati rice and nan bread. A selection of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options ensures there’s something for every guest. They also have a varied takeaway offering, including starters, curries, sides, bread and rice.
Whether you’re a local resident or a visitor to the Scottish Highlands, Mangrove offers a distinctive dining experience that combines the rich, aromatic flavours of India with the warmth of Highland hospitality in one of Inverness’s most stylish restaurants.
