About

Bringing a touch of Californian sunshine to The Ned, the gargantuan City hotel and dining complex from the Soho House group, is Malibu Kitchen.

Tucked away in the corner of The Ned’s impressive fleet of ground-floor restaurants, Malibu Kitchen is a cosy and compact space, featuring a long communal table in the middle of its dining room and then a few two or four person booths either side. Towards the back of the room, there is a partially open kitchen where guests can watch the chefs at work, while on the opposite end of the space, there is a counter where buffet spreads sit on the weekend.

With health and wellness at the forefront of its ethos, Malibu Kitchen offers an all-day food menu which is replete with veggie and vegan options, as well as all of the usual Mediterranean by way of the US fare that you would expect to find in sunny California. At breakfast, guests can get their day off to the right start with health-conscious dishes such as a colourful acai bowl or turmeric pancakes topped with banana and almond butter.

Malibu Kitchen’s a la carte is split between ‘first bites’, ‘raw and cured’, ‘vegetables, seeds and grains’ and ‘fish and meat’. You can pick and choose between the different sections and while you are browsing you might come across the likes of sea bass ceviche or scallops slicked with miso, while those looking for a little more indulgence can opt for the cheeseburger, which is served inside a potato bun,

On Tuesdays, diners at Malibu Kitchen can treat themselves to a signature Soho House Picante cocktail, two tacos, a side and a dessert for only £27. If you are really looking for value for money though, try Malibu Kitchen’s all-you-can-eat vegetarian brunch on Saturday afternoons.

Terrible

Last night I went out to dinner and the evening was going extremely well. When I arrived they placed me and my dinner date on the end of the long communal table but then moved us to a booth without us asking. My guest and I were deep in conversation the whole evening but it became apparent the waiters were adamant to interrupt us over 20 times to check we were “ok”. Their lack of experience showed throughout the evening as theyslammed drawers behind our table but we didnt care much. When I asked for the bill the last waiter who served us presented the bill unfolded in the middle of the table. I pick up the bill quickly as I was treating my friend and the waiter then asked to see the bill and unfolded it and placed it in the middle of the table. I mentioned to him it’s not polite to do this . He then came back with the card machine and took some very childish decisions to put the bill back in the middle of the table or pretend he couldn’t read it or needed the light of the card machine to show the numbers on the bill. His passive aggressive behaviour really killed what was a great evening and completely changed my opinion of the entire venue. I’ve been going tot the Ned for many years as I used to work for a company in the royal exchange. The waiter was tall, dark and wore glasses and I sincerely hope he is removed from the establishment because and full grown man doesn’t need to be acting this way at such a great establishment.

The dark waiter with the glasses is by far the most unprofessional server I have ever dealt with. From work at St John’s , J Sheekey and the chop house myself he was confrontational, childish and they way he handle the bill by insisting he showed it to my guest like some delinquent child is unacceptable. If I return to the venue and see him there I will be sure to tell every single person I know of his pathetic behaviour. A full grown man who didn’t apologise or acknowledge me as I left the restaurant walking straight past him at the desk.

Valentine's Day

Booked a table for two and we both enjoyed the dinner.

They have a nice selection of cocktails, classics with some twist :)

The food menu was really nice as well especially if you are vegetarian.

I can really recommend the place.

Great for a catch up with friends
I booked Malibu Kitchen for a quick client lunch. They have a chronic lack of booths, there are only four in the entire restaurant, so only choose the place if you're happy to share a table. It wasn't too much of a problem for us, and was made up for my excellent food. The staff are also incredibly friendly and helpful. I will certainly visit again, but probably for a catch up with friends. Highly recommended for vegans and those with allergies and intolerances, probably not ideal for the meat and two veg brigade.

California in the City
I had booked the Malibu Kitchen after a recommendation to go and check out The Ned because it was close to my office. The old Midland Bank banking hall has been transformed into one of the most "fun" locations in the City. I had chosen the Malibu Kitchen from the other 9 restaurants in The Ned because of its leaning to health eating. In fact it is more of a "nod" to healthy eating because though the food is indeed packed made up of goodness, the portion sizes are truly American and it is very easy to over order. The food is flavourful and moorish, the service is attentive without being over-bearing, my only minor gripe would be that I don't particularly like sitting at a counter and there are relatively few booths. However, I left inspired to go and check out the other establishments at The Ned.

A welcome slice of California in London!
Having visited various other restaurants at The Ned I was super excited for lunch at Malibu Kitchen! I am someone who suffers from various food intolerances/allergies and both the menu and staff were very helpful and accommodating - in fact I could eat most things which is very unusual! Didn't love the decor but the food was amazing, especially for the price so I was very impressed. Not many restaurants in the City that offer a menu like this so it was very welcome. I can't wait to go back!
