At the tail end of 2017, the creators of South Kensington private members’ club Albert’s and the guys behind Mahiki set up this sister to Piers Adam’s notorious Mayfair boîte. The Kenny High venue, gussied up in plastic Polynesian gubbins, is split between a restaurant, Pufferfish, and a rattan and bamboo beachcomber bar inspired by the 1950s California craze for all things tiki. Here, surfer dudes in Hawaiian print shirts serve reliably good, premium drinks – rummy rinses, Hurricanes, Slings and walloping punches in cool kitsch bespoke mugs. Typical calls such as The Night Rattler, Missionary’s Rescue and Mustique Fizz, along with pricey specials to share such as the infamous Treasure Chest, might bring added sparkle to the eye of Meghan Markle; her prince and the royal rat pack are fans of the Mahiki brand.
