Lynrace Spirit on Oxford’s bohemian Walton Street is a bar, but not like you’ve ever experienced before. Instead, Lynrace Spirit boasts cosy interiors, intriguing lesser-seen spirits and unique cocktails. Set in the up-and-coming creative neighbourhood of Jericho, the focus here is on connection and creativity, rather than just drinks. That said, a whole host of bespoke made-to-order cocktails and bottled creations to take home are reason enough to visit. If drinks are your thing, it’s pretty much heaven.
Aesthetically, it’s gorgeous - think a traditional, ornately carved wooden bar, wood panelled walls, a richly-toned colour palette and a real fireplace. Brimming with atmosphere and character, you’ll find vintage posters mixed in with more contemporary pieces, for a quirky but casual feel with spadefuls of ambience and soul.
The menu at Lynrace Spirit offers a wide, appealing range of cocktails made with contemporary alcoholic and non-alcoholic spirits, all sourced from unique producers. The signatures list includes concoctions such as the Lynrace Negroni - a new spin on an old favourite - which brings together Salcombe Gin, Cocchi Dopo Teatro and Gran Classico Bitter. Meanwhile, Cake Or Death combines velvet chocolate wine, Cherry Heering, Davna Rye vodka, lemon and black walnut bitters. If you’re not in the mood for experimentation, no problem - all the classics are available, too.
Alternatively, if you’re looking for a really riotous way to enjoy Lynrace’s spoils, we suggest trying an Absinthe Fountain cocktail, dispensed via a traditional fountain, and served in classic, vintage-style glasses. There’s also a concise wine list, if you’re just in the mood for a glass of good ol’ red.
And, if you’re off the sauce, simply look to Lynrace Spirit's extensive alcohol-free options, such as the Pentire Coastal Spritz with blood orange, sea rosemary, oakwood and orange tonic water. While Lynrace Spirit is more about the drinks, there are a few small nibbles available to sate you while you slurp, including Harlequin Olives, Biltong dried and cured beef and smoked almonds.
