Antony Worrall Thompson knows a thing or two about good food, & consequently his Grill has become the gastronomic restaurant of choice around Kew Green. It’s not the most stylish of venues –
bare brick walls are enlivened by jewelled cushions & lively posters – but it’s perfectly comfortable. Meat is the metier here, easily surpassing the fish & vegetarian choices. Beef (even
the burgers) is prime Aberdeenshire Scottish, aged 35 days. Choose your cut of steak & the chefs will cook it to order. Calf’s liver, pork belly & grilled chicken are also worth
considering. Kick off with retro starters (prawn cocktail, stuffed mushrooms, bang bang chicken with peanut sauce) & round off (if you’re still capable), with crumble & custard. A serious,
red-heavy wine list complements the food.

At an early Saturday evening sitting (7.30pm) , whilst the food was fine the service was rushed and unfriendly. We had not been told that they wanted the table back at any particular time but we felt they were rushing us through the meal so as to pack a later sitting in. A requested pause between the main course and ordering the dessert was totally ignored.
