The Steam Packet is a classic West London pub with a penchant for watching live sport, bringing people together and serving up a hearty menu, on the river in Chiswick. While much of The Steam Packet's concept stays true to tradition, there is something a little out of the ordinary about this London boozer - and that's its fantastic location. You don't find views like this everyday; perched on the River Thames close to Kew Bridge, its name actually comes from the ships that once sailed by, dating all the way back to 1870.
With a striped awning and duck egg blue colour scheme, it's a lovely space to be - whether that's to watch a game, have dinner or just enjoy an Aperol Spritz with friends. The menu is extensive so whatever your tastes, you'll find something delicious for either lunch, dinner or Sunday roast. For example, starters might look like garlic and herb tiger prawns with bouncy focaccia, alongside rich pork belly bites with a soy and maple syrup glaze, as well as spring onions and chilli. For something comforting, there's the leek and potato soup, thickened with deliciously indulgent clotted cream.
For the main course, some pub classics have been given an upgrade such as Cumberland sausages with buttered mash, spinach and beer onion gravy, as well as Homity pie with Quicke’s mature Cheddar and spring onion, cabbage and gravy. You also likely can't go wrong with the 28-day Himalayan salt-aged sirloin steak with triple cooked chips and peppercorn sauce. For vegetarian diners, get stuck into the plant-based burger with tomato, gem lettuce, jalapeño mayo and skin-on fries.
Sundays bring a wholesome roast dinner with meat options like White Cobb chicken, roast Duroc pork belly and 35-day aged grass-fed sirloin of beef. If you can't choose, why not go for the trio offering, which lets you try a little bit of everything.
