Hector’s is a charming bottle shop and wine bar tucked into a quiet residential street in De Beauvoir, just a short stroll from Dalston Junction. Since opening in 2021, it has become a beloved local haunt, known for its curated selection of European wines, intimate atmosphere, and relaxed neighbourhood vibe. The space is run by Jimmy Stephenson (formerly of Hill & Szrok) and Anna Shaffer, who bring a blend of hospitality and flair to the venue.
By day, Hector’s operates as a bottle shop offering around 300 wines, including natural, classic, and rare vintages. The shelves are packed with colourful labels and the team is always on hand to offer recommendations. From Wednesday to Sunday evenings, the shop transforms into a cosy wine bar, with seating both inside and spilling out onto the pavement in warmer months. The interior features peach-toned walls, unvarnished wood, and soft lighting, creating a warm and inviting setting.
The food offering is simple but thoughtful, designed to complement the wines. Expect Cantabrian anchovies in olive oil, jamón Ibérico with salted Catalan almonds, and seasonal small plates that change regularly. Recent additions include grilled courgettes with ricotta and mint, and terrine with pickled vegetables, reflecting a growing emphasis on fresh, produce-led dishes.
Hector’s doesn’t take reservations and limits groups to six, preserving its intimate feel. The vibe is casual and sociable, with a soundtrack that leans mellow and eclectic. It’s a place for spontaneous evenings, where locals drop in for a glass and a bite, and end up staying longer than planned.
What makes Hector’s stand out is its unpretentious approach to great wine. Whether you’re a seasoned oenophile or just curious, the team’s passion and knowledge make it an accessible and enjoyable experience.
