And don’t forget to sample the dish that Sri Lanka is perhaps best known for – hoppers – which are paper-thin rice pancakes filled with a cracked, baked egg.
Main dishes include a selection of coconut curries made with crab, fish, chicken and mutton, while vegetarian options feature a creamy coconut dhal, sauteed okra, pumpkin mustard curry, spicy potatoes and aubergine moju (sweet and sour). Choose from various rice dishes and breads - think coconut rotis and flaky parathas, as well as yellow turmeric rice to soak up any sauce-based curries. The dessert list is concise, but it does include Watalappan, a tradition Sri Lankan dessert made using coconut milk, cardamom, eggs, kithul and nutmeg.
