About

If you're looking for an easy-going, central London restaurant which promises a friendly atmosphere, pleasing decor and a menu of British favourites, Coopers Restaurant & Bar can be found in the heart of Holborn.

The location is second-to-none. Positioned in the charming Lincoln's Inn Fields, Coopers Restaurant & Bar is just a hop, skip and a jump to Holborn station, and surrounded by a mix of lively bars and nightlife if you plan on keeping the evening going. Plus, immediate transport links mean it's easy to get home or around London.

The concept is all about good food and good times. You won't find pretentious airs and graces here. The team are set on being friendly and approachable and pride themselves on creating a relaxing, enjoyable atmosphere for guests, making Coopers Restaurant & Bar a fantastic place to bring anyone from a date to friends, to family, to work colleagues.

As for the food, the menu is inspired by British crowd pleasers. Plates change with the seasons so you can expect to see the best of British produce throughout the year, but some old favourites remain. For example, the summer menu includes starters such as refreshing chilled white gazpacho with almonds, melon and nasturtium pesto, as well as a colourful salad of carrots, candied walnuts, acidulated cream and greens, as well as salty grilled sardines on crisped toast with summer tomatoes and aioli.

For mains, you might enjoy the likes of broad bean, pea and marsh samphire risotto with toasted seeds, alongside larger plates such as free range chicken breast with sauteed rainbow chard, Jersey Royals and shiitake mushroom jus, as well as Cornish day boat bouillabaisse with croutes, aioli, samphire and new potatoes. Desserts might include rhubarb and custard with gingerbread crumb or Kent strawberries with meringue and Chantilly cream.

Coopers is great. I have been going there since the late 90s and have never been disappointed. The menu shows imagination without being outlandish, and the cooking is superb. The prices are a little on the high side, but not outrageous. The service is friendly and efficient, and Denise's advice is always to be trusted. It is quite a lively place at lunchtimes, without being noisy. The atmosphere in the evenings is very varied; it is often used for medium-sized parties, which create a buzz, but on other nights it can be a little too quiet. Always best to book.

This restaurant is a hidden gem. Set in the historical Lincoln's Inn next to the old curiosity shop. You will find a superb atmosphere with great munue of food and wine at a fair price. This is one of my favourite London restaurants by far. Ray
