If you want to transport yourself to France, on a summer's day, visit Boulebar, which evokes memories of eternal summer with boules under the platanes. The unique Boulebar has 13 venues across three different countries, with a DNA infused with a true French feel – a bit of rebellion, flirtation, and plenty of wit. This location finds itself in the heart of London’s busy Spitalfields, where hustle and bustle surround the space.
The newest member of the Boulebar family, the Spitalfields branch is home to 10 pétanque courts, an authentic French charcuterie restaurant, and a chic Parisian cocktail bar, so you’ll be set up for hours of fun. As for drinks, there are delicious French cocktails and plenty of fizz, along with ciders, beers and plenty of spirits. The house special drink is the Ricard Pastis, which has a distinct taste of liquorice, and is used as a traditional celebration to share during the social sport of pétanque.
Aperitifs include Fine de Claire oysters with fresh lemon and mignonette, along with a seared tuna salad with olives, capers, grilled paprika and anchovies. There are croquettes filled with goat cheese and browned onions, and olives marinated in garlic, chilli and rosemary. For a lighter start before your main meal, try the quad of dips – green pea hummus, tapenade, artichaunade and aïoli with fresh bread.
For your main, order the Boulebar special of a cheese and charcuterie board, or a platter of Cashel Blue cheese with poached pear, mature goats cheese, Brillat-Savarin, comte with honey and nuts, and truffle Munster. The shellfish platter contains lobster, green shell mussels, razor clams and shrimp, and you can always order a heaped portion of French fries. Dessert includes chocolate truffles, a gateau Marcel chocolate cake, and Dame Blanche, which is made of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate sauce.
