Located in Walthamstow, Big Penny Social is a huge taproom and events space, with a capacity for a whopping 1,400 guests. It comes as no surprise, then, that this venue is known for putting on exciting events, hosting sports screenings and quizzes, and providing all-round fun to the people of Walthamstow and passers by. During each season, you'll typically find themed events advertised, including vintage fairs and beach pop-ups, curling during the winter, and even child-friendly activities like bouncy castle sessions and singalongs. All great events come hand in hand with great food, and the team at Big Penny Social have worked hard to ensure that they've crafted a fantastic menu for guests. Working with local suppliers, to include beautiful ingredients and produce, the dishes on offer change with the seasons. Main meals are available from Monday through to Friday, and as for drinks, the menu is headlined by Big Penny Social's very own beers.
If you are visiting during the week, enjoy a main of glazed pork chop with a whisky and bacon gravy, creamy roast chicken leg in melted leek and butter sauce, or roasted butternut squash with parsley and walnut pesto, crispy onions and seed crumb. Sides include potato gratin, green beans with sauteed shallots and garlic butter, fries, a seasonal salad and house slaw. The sharing mains are a fantastic way to connect with the table, with big bowls of tender chicken tikka or lentil dhal, served with basmati and wild rice, poppadoms and a cucumber and mint salad.
If it's just something light you're after, nibble on a Cumberland sausage roll, crispy chicken wings with BBQ sauce, or party hummus. There are salads, perfect for lunchtime, including a winter pear salad with chicory, kale, walnuts and blue cheese, and a beautiful selection of sourdough pizzas. Enjoy the pepperoni with tomato, mozzarella, Cobble Lane cured salami and red chilli, or a creamy roasted veg with pesto and vegan burrata.
