Aki London opens on Cavendish Square as the first international outpost from Malta’s Lifestyle Group. The restaurant brings its contemporary Japanese concept to the West End, following the success of the original Aki in Valletta. There, the group earns repeated recognition from the Michelin Guide. In London, the brand offers a similar focus on quality ingredients, clean execution and an atmosphere that reflects both Japanese precision and Mediterranean warmth.
Aki London sits within a Grade II listed former bank, now fully reimagined after a two year renovation. The main dining room, once a grand banking hall, seats 80. Below, the building’s vaults have been transformed into a cocktail bar, while the mezzanine holds a terrace and private dining space. Interiors by British Maltese designer Francis Sultana make use of marble, glass and dark timber, balancing heritage detail with soft modernity. The space also includes a curated selection of art that links the restaurant, bar and lounge.
The menu centres on contemporary Japanese cooking. Robata and kushiyaki are cooked over open flame, sushi is clean and carefully handled, and everything is underpinned by strong sourcing. Signature dishes draw on the Valletta original, but are developed with the London context in mind. The approach is confident and precise, with technique and produce taking equal priority.
Cocktails follow the same line. The Rising Sun, made with gin, Yuzushu, Bianco vermouth, honey and a green tea foam, shows how Japanese ingredients and Maltese sensibility come together in a glass. The drinks list also includes a sharp edit of wine, sake and spirits to complement the food.
Aki London positions itself as both refined and approachable. It combines structure and hospitality, art and clarity, all under one roof. With a central location, thoughtful design and a focused menu, it arrives with purpose. It does not aim to be loud, but to be lasting — a welcome addition that earns its place through detail, consistency and quiet confidence.
