Bath's rich heritage sees more than a million tourists flock to the city every year. It reflects two significant periods of history – Roman and Georgian - and became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987 because of its unrivalled legacy. For many, a visit wouldn’t be complete without paying a visit to its iconic Roman Baths, which were built around 60 AD by taking advantage of the area's natural hot springs. It wasn't until the 18th century, though, when Bath developed into a thriving and elegant hub famous for its art and literature. The city was famously once the dwelling place of Jane Austen, and a visit to the Royal Crescent or the Circus is about as close as you can get to stepping inside one of her iconic novels.

In addition to its history, dining in Bath is one of the top things to do while you’re there. From Michelin-starred restaurants to warming gastropubs and casual cafes, the city is packed with tasty places to eat. Afternoon tea in Bath is a popular ritual amongst visitors, which is why you can find a wealth of places offering this elegant British tradition. It’s also packed to the rafters with places serving brunch, epic Sunday roasts, as well as loads of vegetarian and vegan spots. Whatever you’re in the mood for, Bath’s restaurants are sure to cater for it. Don't forget to take a look at all of Bath's best restaurants for somewhere that's guaranteed to impress.
