I was recently introduced to the Natural Kitchen by a friend, and it has since become one of my regular haunts.
The concept is great. I love coming here for lunch, and being able to pick up my evening meal at the same time!
The ground floor comprises of a large salad bar and sandwich counter, from which you can either take away, or enjoy at the informal indoor or outdoor seating. There is a wide range of juices, coffees and teas to accompany, as well as a cake counter. The brownies deserve special merit!
The rest of the space here is retail. The butchers counter is fanatstic, very Borough Market, and is complimented by a selection of oven-ready freshly made foods such as lasange, pies and meatballs. They also do excellent fresh pasta and sauces. Fruit and veg is available, although limited, as is the cheese. Breads are brilliant, especially the focaccia and sourdough. They have a range of homemade jams and marmalades, which are served in the upstairs cafe ‘all you can eat’ breakfast deal.
The breakfast menu upstairs looks good, but can only comment on the main menu. The meze platter is delicious, as is the charcuterie, although again the cheese here is disappointing. The tartlets served with a generous side salad are lovely, as are the soups which change daily. Most of the hot meals are found on the specials board, and these are consistently outstanding. The fishcakes especially so although the mossaka and risotto also fantastic!
Drinks wise, juices are excellent. If you are after something a little stronger, there is a reasonable selection of wine, and beer / cider. These are sold at retail price ie what you'd pay in the basement cellar, which is always a pleasant surprise! The cellar itself is small, but what is in there is well selected, so well worth a look!
Highly recommended!
