SquareMeal Review of The Montague Arms

Much to the astonishment and delight of Peckham’s young indie crowd, this boarded-up New Cross Gate boozer hasn’t been turned into designer flats or yet another high-street convenience store. Instead, The Montague Arms has resurfaced as a born-again local with plenty of aces up its sleeve. Gothic steampunk trappings set the urban-cool scene for amber drops from the nearby Brockley Brewery, as well as Yorkshire’s Saltaire and Magic Rock, West Sussex stars Dark Star and US imports among an evolving cast of craft keg beers. Those who drop by can also anticipate showcases from up-and-coming guitar thrashers, edgy DJ sets, off-the-wall weekly quiz nights, comfort food, Sunday roasts and good-natured service – courtesy of the guys behind The Brown Derby in Kennington.
