Although it plays second fiddle to the starry Connaught Bar, The Coburg shouldn't be underestimated – imagine sitting inside a box of Quality Street chocolates, with flashes of vibrant colour punctuating a warm, inviting room that is high on creature comforts. The compendium of heritage cocktails revisits Georgian sours, flips and cups, resurrects Victorian fizzes, daisies and cobblers, promotes 20th-century stars such as Hemingway daiquiri or Marlene Dietrich (a Canadian whiskey sour), and publicises London inventions including the espresso martini. As you'd expect at this level, malts and Cognac are top notch – anything from rare and vintage Macallans to a 1914 Hine Jarnac at an astonishing £1,500. Royal beluga caviar aside, edible treats include everything from a smoked salmon and scrambled egg full breakfast (£29) and lunchtime salads to black truffle and mascarpone ‘cones'

The Connaught hotel features two exquisite bars that are ideal for very different occasions. The warmth and intimacy of the Coburg Bar makes it a wonderful place to relax after a day at the office or shopping, while the design and the cocktails at the Connaught Bar are perfect for an upbeat glamorous evening with friends. We highly recommend one of their signature Martinis.
