SquareMeal Review of The Bayou

Billed as an all-day Creole bar and kitchen, The Bayou brings together the music, decor and culture of the region with its influences from France, Spain, Italy and Africa. Live bands, honky-tonk pianists and solo acts perform on the stage each night, while the bar dispenses boutique American beers, shots of bourbon and cocktails such as Proud Mary (mezcal, tomato juice, cucumber and dill), Jasmine Mint Julep and a hit version of the classic Old Fashioned involving bacon and maple syrup. As for the food, expect to find deep-filled po’ boy sandwiches with ‘debris gravy’, Bayou beef croquettes, buttermilk chicken, jambalaya, crayfish gumbo and down-home desserts – plus chicken wings and ribs from the specially imported Bradley smoker. There are brunch classics too, and a late-supper menu for Camden’s night owls.
