SquareMeal Review of
Dover’s High Street might not be an obvious foodie destination, but this homespun all-day restaurant opposite the town hall is surprisingly inviting. It offers a modern British brasserie menu based
on top-notch seasonal produce, & stands head & shoulders above its less salubrious neighbours with plain, airy surrounds, an open-to-view kitchen & a sheltered warm-weather terrace. The
kitchen delivers simple but well-executed dishes, perhaps eggs Benedict with home-baked ham or superb sourdough pancakes with maple syrup for breakfast, ahead of lunch offerings such as red pepper
& basil pesto quiche or spiced bean & vegetable casserole. In the evening you might begin by savouring the delicate flavours of courgette roulade with grapefruit ratatouille &
mascarpone, before getting your teeth around a more robust plateful of five-hour marinated lion of pork with crisped crackling; after that, baked blueberry cheesecake should do the trick.
