Souk Clapham

SquareMeal Review of Souk Clapham

This lively Clapham stalwart was strutting its Moroccan-themed stuff long before the High Street’s upmarket hike, and a revamped offer has helped to keep it ahead the game. The sultry North African-inspired interiors remain, complete with low tables and leather banquettes, while the bar still turns out a mean cocktail – with a comprehensive line-up of martinis and ‘two-for-one’ long drinks, such as a mango mai tai, sweetening the deal until 9pm. However, it’s the ‘great’ new menu that really surprises, with its cracking selection of international tapas dishes. The likes of seared sesame-crusted tuna with wasabi, mini Ibérico pork and foie gras burgers or crispy calamari are way beyond your average bar belly-fillers, with proper care and skill across the board. Things get lively of a weekend, so arrive early to take full advantage of Souk’s delights.

I went to SO.UK on a Friday night, had cocktails and food from the Morroccan Meze menu which by the way is SO yummy!!! Best thing about this place is that they have happy hour deals every night when they are open. It's the type of bar where you can go for drinks with friends and actually hear each other when talking, until about 11/12pm when the dj comes on and plays amazing tracks, by which points you'd have had about 3/4 cocktails and are in a mood to dance :)

Once again I fell for it, in an attempt to continue my night I avoided Mosquito bar and came here – now it's not bad as a venue I just find it incredibly busy, not the best clientelle and little pretentious. Always rammed, good music but no fun, there's no friendly vibe like you get with other bars – too crammed and I need to cross it off my list – maybe I'm getting old!

Cant believe i hadn't been here before! its just the kind of place i love! Vibrant, trendy, great crowd, cocktails looked really good but i was sticking to the champagne. I was on a table a friend had reserved for his birthday. we were looked after brilliantly by a really friendly and fun waitress. we had plans to go somewhere else after a couple of hours at Souk but abandoned them because we where having such a good time where we were! the atmosphere was great and built up more and more through the night! great night!

Souk is a jewel in the sometimes depressing London! Stepping inside I felt like id escaped the greyness and the miserable British weather and entered an oasis of warmth and comfort. I loved the look of the place and the feeling of being in Aladdin’s den or somewhere exotic like Morocco but with the modern twist of the music (great mix of classic and commercial tracks from the DJ) and also the great crowd that came in that night. I came on a Friday not long after a hard, dull days work and was able to leave all my bad feelings out side and just have a great time! The waiting staff were really friendly and made me feel welcome and that I’d come to the right place. The cocktails made by the lovely bar men were amazing! I didn’t try the food but it looked delicious and I will definitely be trying it next time! The night started off quite calmly and I had a nice table to sit with my friend. As the night went on and it got busier the atmosphere encouraged us to leave our seats to dance and mingle with the crowd. I saw they make bookings for parties so I cant wait until my birthday so I have an excuse to throw one there!

I usually come here mid-week as it is something different in the otherwise chain and plain Clapham. Drinks are delicious, the food is mezze, quick and delicious. The decor is a very open entrance with long soft couch like benches around the circumference of the bar. The staff are attentive with table service and very helpful. The food is priced so that you can easily buy 4 items and not spend a fortune. I recommend this place for midweek dates either with someone new or someone you've been with for a while. I would not come here for the food. Come here for the drinks and the food helps soak up the cocktails. The food is not special. To call it authentic is probably a step too far. The music is very Buddha Bar eclectic but probably predictably so.
