SquareMeal Review of
Salt & Honey
Locals have warmed to this friendly bistro in quiet, residential Sussex Place, but so too have after-hours staff from busy Edgware Road – they all love the original contemporary cooking and warm welcome at this amiable neighbourhood eatery done out in shades of green with leather banquettes and floor-to-ceiling windows. Sip a pomegranate Bellini with a plate of pickled girolles and salted ricotta on toasted sourdough or a super-healthy avocado, tomato and mixed grain salad with slivers of chicken. Substantial mains range from perfectly translucent roast cod topped with creamy shrimp butter to confit duck gussied up with ruby chard, pickled shallots and almonds, while pasta bolognese is extravagantly prepared with Wagyu beef. Reasonable prices also mean you won’t mind splashing out on desserts such as salted caramel pannacotta or saffron crème brulée made with Manuka honey – a nod to the owners’ first London venture, Manuka Kitchen in Fulham. Salt & Honey shows they got it right.
