SquareMeal Review of Rotary

Maverick chef and pop-up specialist Carl Clarke (Disco Bistro) has teamed up with Jonathan Downey’s Rushmore Group (Giant Robot, The Player etc) for a 10-month residency at Rotary – an all-day bar, diner and music venue on City Road. Set in an office block due for development, it features a menu inspired by Clarke’s twin passions for British produce and street food: buttermilk chicken wings, burgers and buns with beef-dripping chips sit alongside Cornish crab salad with blood orange and various items from the wood grill (day-boat fish, Tamworth pork, bone-in beef sirloin); ‘smokeshack’ BBQ specials are also in the pipeline, while sweet things include various ‘pudding cups’, cakes from Lilli Vanilli and choc ices courtesy of Sorbitum. Cocktails and late-night DJs complete the package. Below stairs is the Rotary Room – a separate members’ lounge and wine room.
