Once a spit-&-sawdust boozer, The Queen Adelaide is now a handsome gastropub, thanks to the team behind Earls Court favourite, The Pembroke, & Hammersmith’s The Crabtree. Drinks on draught change regularly, featuring lesser-known but scrumptious pints such as Harveys Sussex Best or a punchy scrumpy. Bar snacks (lamb kofta, for instance, or pork pie) offer sustenance for drinkers. Alternatively, you could take a seat in the open-plan dining room – smartly dolled-up in dark colours & stripped wood – & choose from a European-influenced menu. A three-course meal might start with Greek salad or duck-liver pâté on sourdough, followed by onglet steak with fries, or pork meatballs in tomato sauce with pasta, concluding with Eton mess. Children’s meals, a £10 two-course lunch menu & weekend breakfasts are further incentives to visit.
