SquareMeal Review of
Manchester’s heritage-soaked Free Trade Hall – formerly a concert venue for the likes of Pink Floyd and Bob Dylan – provides the backdrop for this striking high-ceilinged restaurant within the
Radisson Blu Edwardian hotel. Well-drilled staff offer smiling service in the glamorous black and red dining room, which is decked out with plush velvet banquettes and leather-topped tables. Settle
in for a seasonal menu with some playful touches: a crispy Scotch quail’s egg arrives in an egg cup with the obligatory soldiers, while the ‘taste of Manchester’ dessert includes a warm Eccles cake
with clotted cream and surprisingly good iced Vimto parfait. Elsewhere, confidently cooked mains might include softly braised pork cheeks with apple and sage purée. The buzzy bar is a smart spot
for classic cocktails, while the colonnaded Opus Reserve lounge offers a well-priced range of fizz as well as afternoon tea.
