Inspired by the barnstorming success of Meatliquor, street kings Yianni Papoutsis and Scott Collins arrived in Covent Garden with an outlet on the narrow balcony of the Jubilee Market Hall. Meatmarket doesn’t take bookings, so expect queues; once you’re in, simply check the menu board, order at the till and wait for your name to be called. The food arrives wrapped in greaseproof paper on metal trays: think sloppy, southern-style burgers and huge hot dogs with fries, as well as addictive stuffed jalapeños (‘poppaz’). The star performer is the legendary Dead Hippie burger, with its two mustard-fried beef patties, gooey cheese, onions and trademark sauce, though some may prefer the dirty chicken cheeseburger (which does what it says on the tin) or buffalo wings with blue cheese dip. It’s a long strip of a venue, with diner-style tables along one wall and a go-up-and-order counter on the other. They’ve decorated the place with witty plaques and slogans everywhere, something to amuse you while...

However I found myself in Covent Garden alone last week and so took the opportunity to visit Meat Market. I had gone to their sister restaurant Meat Liquor several years ago and had a fantastic and very filling meal!Meat Market is a relatively small, no frills American burger and hot dog bar - it doesn&t take bookings, the menu is on a board, you queue up, order and then your food is served on plastic trays, in greaseproof paper, with kitchen roll...
