SquareMeal Review of Matsya

This Mayfair restaurant traverses India, aiming to feed guests with dishes from previously underrepresented regions of the country. The expansive space features a first-floor dining area, a wine cellar, a private dining room and a ground floor bar. You’re spoilt for choice with the pages-long menu, which specialises in seafood and features a business lunch option for under £20, as well as a handful of tasting menus. From the à la carte, you can expect the likes of Tandoori squids stuffed with prawns and fish, or fiery lamb mince kebabs smoked with mustard oil and dry red chillies. Meat-free diners can enjoy coconut and vegetable stew, or sweet and sour paneer croquettes, while desserts see spiced chocolate walnut pudding with rum and honey cream, and rice pudding with wine-poached pears and ginger crumble. The drinks list is just as extensive as the menu, boasting an impressive selection of spirits alongside a choice of international wines.

This contemporary Indian boasts two beautiful private dining spaces. The Chambers room is an intimate space located in the cellar and can seat up to 10 guests. Guests can enjoy a bespoke menu (must be pre-ordered) and will enjoy the company of the head chef during their meal. Matsya also has a semi-private ‘Georgian-style’ room which can seat between 30-40 guests. Various menus are available, including à la carte, vegetarian and halal options. Alternatively, guests in this space can opt to enjoy a more casual buffet.
