Squaremeal Review of The Ivy Café Marylebone ?

Readers seem more taken with The Ivy Chelsea Garden, but there’s plenty to recommend this classy brand extension. Marylebone loves a grand café, and all the details – heavy silverware, nets at the windows, huge floral sprays – are present and correct. A generous walk-in policy ensures that impulsive passers-by can click-clack over the expensively tiled floor and take a seat among shiny framed prints. Breakfast is a treat and, not surprisingly, there’s a strong comfort element to the rest of the menu; if you crave fishcakes, shepherd’s pie, duck curry or a hamburger, they’ve got your back. Meanwhile, cleaner eaters will find simply grilled fish and healthy-sounding salads (perhaps kale, quinoa, avocado and mixed seeds with ponzu dressing). The wine list is short but serviceable, cocktails include a three-strong Negroni tasting set, service combines formality with warmth, and they’re great with kids – “something for everyone” in fact.

What's not to love.....

by   platinum reviewer (86)

Jan 2016

Editor's pick I was lucky to have lunch twice here over the holidays, and can only sing it's praises. I was ill the first time I went and on a restricted diet, so thought I would have to suffer eating just a slice of bread while my husband ate like a king, but the waitress was very kind and spoke to the kitchen and they grilled me a piece of Dover sole, which tasted wonderful - so thank you!. The Ivy Cafe has an extensive menu, with just about every kind of food I love (and they are open for weekend breakfast...

Read Nuzy Sayani’s review of The Ivy Cafe, Marylebone’s hottest new restaurant.
I am a great fan of The Ivy and have been looking forward to the opening of its sister restaurant on Marylebone Lane. Nestled behind the trendy high street, Marylebone Lane has itself had a makeover and with the road works finally complete, it is another lovely pocket to visit in the area.
The former Union Cafe has been beautifully transformed into an elegant and inviting room. The brass covered bar plays the centre stage and is the focal point of the room. There are shades of its older sister with dark wood panelling and walls...

London From Scratch :: London from Scratch The Ivy Marylebone

The Ivy Caf&’s newest family member in charming Marylebone Lane doesn’t push any gastronomic boats out, but then it doesn’t need to. it’s elegant and comfortable and does a wicked Negoni Tasting Set.
Weekend brunch in Marylebone is a notoriously staid affair. There’s rarely anything more controversial than somewhere serving eggs benedict using smoked bacon instead of ham. The responsibility for offering the smidgingly more lively breaky options such as Turkish Eggs (poached eggs in yoghurt and chilli oil) falls solely on the shoulders of The Providores. And for their presence on the High Street, I thank the goddesses...

Quiet eating :: Quieteating The Ivy Cafe Marylebone

The Ivy seems to be so hot as a celebrity hangout that mere mortals (such as myself), are excluded from the premises, even if they had a golden parachute (which I don’t). It’s not about money but power. Something which I also sadly lack.

What I do have in abundance is a sharp tongue and sometimes a lack of restraint. So when meeting up with an impeccably mannered old friend, we just had to end up in one of the numerous branches of the Ivy. Maybe we could soak up a bit of prominence by proximity. Shepherd’s pie, slow braised lamb shoulder with beef and cheddar potato mash. Very carefully presented, rather...
