SquareMeal Review of
‘No gimmicks, just good service, banter and great booze’, that's Found's mantra. Unlike certain hubristic City chancers, this unostentatious gaff – hidden behind a heavy velvet curtain at the foot of an unmarked staircase – talks the talk and walks the walk. With space for just 60 drinkers, it's a tight squeeze – so expect to make some new friends along the way. Drinks vary with the seasons: polished ideas on autumn's well-manicured list might include Tommy Gets Bitter (a dark rum, lime and Cynar Manhattan), as well as a mezcal and Aperol 'Negroni' that calls for both sweet and dry vermouths. Elsewhere, an Espresso Martini (made à la Normandie, with Calvados, not vodka) and a bittersweet gin and maraschino fizz are dandy sips at £9 a go. The fact that this basement is a regular haunt of off-duty bartenders speaks volumes.
