SquareMeal Review of
Dirty Martini Minories
In the Square Mile, you’re never more than a few hundred metres away from a big fat Dirty Martini – more so now that this dependable mid-market chain has a fourth City branch at what was previously Mary Jane’s Bar. DM’s now-familiar look (1950s Madison Avenue, Mad Men) works well across two floors, each served by their own bar. But we’re less enamoured of a statement tiled mural (a portrait of the bar’s ideal female customer maybe?): it’s somewhere between a house CD cover and an ad for cheap perfume. At cosy circular booths, enjoy a Tanqueray Dirty Martini, stirred with Kalamata olive brine (£9). Fine & Dandy (Absolut Blue vodka and Velvet Falernum shaken with cranberry, lime, grenadine and orange bitters) is a term that also applies to other ideas on a meaty cocktail list. Half-price Martinis all day until 8pm (and until 10pm Monday to Wednesday) require self control.
