SquareMeal Review of
Bright 1950s American postmodernism sets the scene for booze, burgers and more besides at this sibling of City bars Babble, Amber and The Gable – although crowd-pleasing cocktails are also part of Core’s strategy. Jam-jar
jobs range from morning glory (Smirnoff, apple and yogurt liqueur) to jelly beanz (tuck shop sweeties served with a fruity Southern Comfort and blackberry jam cooler), although Bill & Ben (a
summer punch with a bottle of fizz for six playmates) may be a little weedy for some. And if kiwi sangria, cherry caipirinha and bubblegum-laced mojito sound a bit too Kavos for your tastes, try
Manhattan or Caucasian (‘classic dude’ vodka, espresso and Kahlùa). Wine starts at £14 and Harviestoun Broken Dial is good beer. To eat, expect anything from chorizo sausage rolls, fish fingers and
smoky hot dogs to man-burgers and brownies.
