With little at ground level suggesting Company Below’s existence, you’re better off letting those in-the-know point you towards what is one of Soho’s smallest cocktail bars. Squeeze past Balls & Company’s restaurant tables, hang left and head downstairs; locate an unremarkable green door – et voilà! You and two dozen other determined drinkers have just discovered this claustrophobia-inducing dark green and gold dive bar. There’s a certain unfussy charm to the place. Sit on white 1950s Scandi-cool high stools at the oak laminate-topped bar to peruse the list of £7.50 house cocktails. Red wine, Earl Grey tea and orange-infused vodka and summer berries are at the heart of Company Iced Tea, while bourbon and amaretto inform the Almond Sour. Refreshed with wine (from £6 a glass), sustained by Jerusalem artichoke arancini, polenta chips, or chocolate brownie, you can contemplate the feeling of complete insulation from the outside world in this bunker.
