SquareMeal Review of
Canada Water Cafe
Located 50 yards from Canada Water tube station, this local café aims to put south-east London on the coffee map, and it delivers some “awesome” results. Breakfast and lunch are the main attractions during the day, with modest menus running from eggs every which way, sourdough toast with preserves and (of course) a full English to sandwiches (perhaps speck and Fontina cheese), antipasti, pastas and Italian-style dishes such as aubergines stuffed with mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, capers and ‘fiore di latte’ Mozzarella. In the evening (from 6pm Mon-Sat), the venue morphs into a pizzeria serving Neapolitan specialities made with sourdough matured for up to 48 hours. Toppings are seasonal and the regularly changing menu also includes ‘white’ versions made without tomatoes, plus dishes such as lasagne and beef tagliata. Well-behaved dogs are welcome – they might even get their photos taken for the website.
