SquareMeal Review of
Bourne & Hollingsworth
Ahead of its 10th birthday, this Fitzrovia liquor lounge unveiled a brand new look in autumn 2016. Out goes the previous pose – Miss Marple’s chintzy 1940s back parlour – in comes a coral and sand colour scheme with oak parquet, silk banquette and Indian quilt-pattern upholstered chairs. Also new are the £10 cocktails. Let your hair down with Rapunzel, a tart cross between a Mojito and a Moscow Mule; Back In Black, a perky Polish vodka Espresso Martini pimped up with spiced syrup; or Love & Hate, a bittersweet stir of bourbon, port and artichoke. It’s a tight squeeze in this boozy basement, with impromptu dancing as the night wears on, but B&H is a sociable spot worth considering for its decent drinks, friendly staff and unpretentious punters. Less appealing is the room’s dominant feature: bold, terracotta squiggle wallpaper that gets livelier still, seen through squiffy eyes. Bring your own Ray-Bans.
