‘Food for thought’ is the theme at this charming bookshop-cum-café decorated in 1950s ‘moderne’ style. Sudanese-born founder Muna Khogali’s judiciously collated volumes are grouped by subject
matter (art, food and drink, children’s interests etc), so peruse them over a cup of organic Fairtrade coffee and cake from the comfort of a funky armchair. The downstairs kitchen area opens onto
an appealing suntrap courtyard garden, where (mostly) vegetarian salads are the pick of the crop: £6.95 pays for a three-part combo that might include couscous, cherry tomato and spinach with
lemon, olive oil and pink peppercorns or turnip and cucumber in lime dressing (add salmon for an additional £3). The premises are normally unlicensed, but you can BYOB if you are hiring the venue
for a private party or book launch.
