SquareMeal Review of
Bavarian Beerhouse Tower Hill
It doesn’t quite have the Oktoberfest authenticity of its City Road sibling, but with a travel poster or two, some oversized beer pumps and dirndl-clad fräuleins dispensing foaming mugs of beer,
the second Bavarian Beerhouse nevertheless conjures up litres of Germanic joviality underneath the arches near Fenchurch Street station. Erdinger wheat beers and premium Warsteiner or Krombacher
lagers are served in different measures, and the boozy inventory extends to Kaltenberg light beer from the König Ludwig brewery, radler (German-style shandy) and schnapps galore, from chilled
Jägermeister on tap to traditional obstler. The food is as Teutonic as it gets, which means anything from spicy obatzda cheese to slim, herby Nuremberg bratwurst, plus mountainous helpings of
Munich-style pig’s trotter with sauerkraut, gravy and dumplings.
